I have seen this beautiful male several times in my travels around Kananaskis Country. When you spend enough time around Banff National Park, you even get to know some of the local bears!

This image was taken one beautiful spring day from the safety of my vehicle as he was feeding on dandelions. These bright yellow weeds are a delicious snack for bears and an important source of protein in the spring time as they emerge from their winter dens.

In spite of his soft, almost contemplative expression, I have no doubt that this large male is just as powerful and fearsome a predator as any of the other grizzlies.
