With colder temperatures quickly settling in and snow starting to cover the landscapes of our Canadian Rockies, food sources for bears begin to dwindle, triggering a natural response to hibernate. Their bodies begin to slow down as they retreat to their dens to escape the harsh winter.
This year had an exceptional crop of berries which are an important diet for bears, as the natural sugars are high in calories adding to their fat reserves to get them through to springtime.
Because of this year’s abundance of berries, I noticed bears were staying in smaller areas for longer periods, making it easy for them to increase their weight and not having to burn calories searching for food. Now, into the first week of November, using his powerful sense of smell and from past experiences of knowing the prime locations of this year’s berry crop, this mature black bear was having to cover several kilometres a day but still managing to find a few berries.
Seeing a black bear this late into the season still finding food and appearing healthy and stress free, is great news for next year’s bear population.
Chromaluxe Metal Prints
Metal prints make for a beautiful and modern presentation. The image is printed directly onto an aluminum surface, allowing for crisp high-resolution details and rich, stunning colours. Metal prints are surprisingly light-weight even at large sizes, and appear to pop out from the wall thanks to the foam backing.
They arrive at your house securely packaged with all needed hardware attached and ready to hang. Caring for metal prints is also a breeze. Just give them a wipe-down from time to time with a soft, dry non-abrasive cloth to remove any dust or finger prints.

Gallery Wrap Canvas Prints
Canvas prints are an affordable and attractive option, particularly if you are shipping overseas. Images are printed directly onto a textured canvas surface and stretched across a warp-proof wooden frame.
This results in a rustic appearance that suits nature photography perfectly. As with metal prints, canvas prints are lightweight and easy to hang. You can also wipe them down with a dry cloth to remove any dust.

Lustre Paper Prints
Lustre paper prints arrive rolled in a tube or with a rigid cardboard backing to keep them secure in the mail. Paper prints are ideal for you if you plan to frame and mat the print yourself. Giving you lots of options for matching your room décor.
Lustre paper has a slightly glossy surface that is more resistant to finger prints and glare than true glossy paper. We test printed many different types of paper before arriving at one that would suit this style of photography nicely.
